Lake Effect’s Ripple Effect team spent the day out at AACORN Farm doing real work for a program doing real good. We helped clear six years of buildup out of the big chicken coop, learned how AACORN supports adults with developmental differences, and got to meet the animals that are part of that daily routine. AACORN creates a real community: young adults who haven’t always had social opportunities get a place to be together, build friendships, and be part of something. The farm work matters, and so does the bond with the animals — even participants who don’t use a lot of spoken language connect and express themselves in a way that’s honest and joyful.
This is what the Ripple Effect means for us. We’re locally owned, we’re here 24/7 for West Michigan, and we believe showing up is part of that. After aging out of school, adults with developmental differences aren’t given many options. AACORN is out here creating purpose, routine, pride, and work that’s real — not just “something to do.” We’re proud to support that, and we’re already committed to the next project.
