Lake Effect in Portage will deliver patients that have medical marijuana card, up to 2.5 ounces of flower buds or edibles a day.
Utopia Gardens and two other licensed dispensaries recently received approval for deliveries. Detroit’s BotaniQ expects to begin service soon, and Portage’s Lake Effect Group LLC plans to launch within the coming weeks.
Cannabis regulators in Michigan have licensed the state’s first cannabis delivery services in Detroit and Portage, according to an MLive report. The two Detroit licenses were issued to Utopia Gardens and BotaniQ, while Lake Effect received the Portage license; however, the services can only bring products to patients in municipalities where cannabis sales are outlawed.
BotaniQ and Utopia Gardens, both of Detroit, and Lake Effect of Portage in southwestern Michigan were the first three delivery services licensed by the state’s new Marijuana Regulatory Agency.
Lake Effect (located in Portage) and two Detroit shops, BotaniQ and Utopia Gardens are the first in the state to be licensed for home delivery by the Marijuana Regulatory Agency. Governor Gretchen Whitmer had the agency take control of licensing medical marijuana facilities from an appointed board.
Michigan has issued its first set of medical marijuana home delivery licenses to three dispensaries. While one license was awarded to a dispensary named Lake Effect, which serves patients in Kalamazoo County, the other two went to BotaniQ and Utopia Gardens, both located in Detroit.
“We know a lot of the patients we’re going to be delivering to — a lot of them are in wheelchairs,” said Jevin Weyenberg, general manager of Lake Effect in Portage. “Convenient access to medicine — you can never put a price on that. It’s life-saving for some people.”
One license went to a dispensary called Lake Effect, which serves patients in Kalamazoo County. And the other two home delivery licenses went to BotaniQ and Utopia Gardens. Both are located in Detroit.
According to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, three licensed dispensaries or provisioning centers are now able to provide a delivery service legally: Utopia Gardens LLC in Detroit, Lake Effect Group LLC in Portage, and BotaniQ in Detroit.
